Task dependencies define the relationships between tasks in your project timeline. When you create a dependency between tasks, you ensure that tasks are scheduled in the correct order, with dependent tasks automatically adjusting their dates based on their predecessors.

Creating Task Dependencies

To create a dependency between two tasks:

  1. Identify the predecessor (first task) and successor (second task) in your timeline

  2. Click on the predecessor task

  3. Drag your mouse to the successor task

  4. Release the mouse button

Once created, the dependency will be shown as an arrow connecting the two tasks. The successor task will automatically reschedule if needed to maintain the dependency relationship.

Understanding Dependencies

When you create a dependency:

  • The successor task cannot start before its predecessor task ends

  • If you move or extend the predecessor task, the successor task will automatically adjust

  • Dependencies are visualized as arrows in the Gantt chart view

Managing Dependencies

  • To delete a dependency: Click the dependency and press Delete

  • Multiple tasks can depend on a single predecessor

  • A task can have multiple predecessors
